Current Situation:
With the non-essential services shut down during the pandemic times, I had been thinking hard. How the impact would be on solar business (Rooftop) ?
With each passing day, it is becoming clearer that the way businesses are done will change. One major change that we will see once the pandemic is over is that handshakes will turn to Namaste . A site visit to the rooftop for taking site measurements can also be done by a couple of members of the integrator and there is no need for any social meetings at the site during this visit.
(Yes , I do understand that a visit might be mandatory to understand the cable routing and inverter locations, but that can be done at a post sales visit since most of the cable distance approximation for quotations can be done based on the height of the building).
The whole sales process shall happen online with the help of automation tools, online meeting tools etc.
Engineering Phase :
There is a need for a mandatory site visit by the technical team to the site post the sale. For understanding the feasibility of taking solar panels to the rooftop, cable routing, earthing strip layout etc. And yes, there is a need for presence of the site electrical head or site authorities for this. But this too can be made a minimum interaction visit by limiting the personnel from the integrator .
Installation Phase :
Now comes the installation part. The solar rooftop installation team is almost outdoors all the time on the rooftop. There is a need for access to the electrical room but that is only for 10-15% of the whole time frame of the installation and can be again made minimum interaction with the personnel at the site with proper planning.
With remote monitoring facilities available to the end users as well as the integrators, maintaining a solar rooftop system has never been more easy. Even if there is a breakdown of the plant, there are very specific areas that the Operation & Maintenance team has to visit.
Conclusion
The electricity bills at houses are only going to increase as more and more people start staying at home. Now that we spend more time indoors our way of living is bound to change.
